Our mission

Protecting a Tallahassee treasure

Lake Munson is a 233-acre natural lake south of Tallahassee that serves as a vital habitat for wildlife, a natural filter for stormwater, and a beloved green space for the community. For decades it has faced threats from nutrient pollution, invasive species, and declining water quality.

Friends of Lake Munson was founded to give this lake a voice — to advocate, educate, and act on its behalf. We are neighbors, scientists, paddlers, and parents who believe this ecosystem deserves to thrive for generations to come.

What we do

Three pillars of restoration

Algae bloom on a Florida lake surface — a sign of nutrient pollution
Water quality

Cleaner water for all

We monitor water quality, advocate for reduced nutrient runoff, and support restoration projects that improve clarity and reduce harmful algae blooms.

Wildlife habitat

A refuge for native species

Lake Munson supports herons, egrets, otters, turtles, and dozens of native fish species. We work to protect and restore the shoreline habitat they depend on.

Community
